AndersonWelcome to ESL!

The 2013-2014 school year marks my 24
th year of teaching in District 197. For most of my career, I taught 3rd and 4th grade, and several years of a ¾ multiage classroom. For the last five years, I have taught ESL at Pilot Knob and several other elementary schools in our district.

I completed my Elementary Education degree at the College of St. Thomas (B.A. Magna Cum Laude) in 1987. I earned a graduate degree (M.Ed.) from Hamline University in 1999. In 2008 I completed my English as a Second Language certification, also at Hamline University.

As a former SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) Facilitator in our district, becoming a teacher of English Learners (EL’s) was a very natural development in my career. I enjoy working with language and students from many different backgrounds and countries. One of my passions is incorporating technology into language teaching so that EL’s can learn content at their language level and demonstrate their expertise through multiple modalities.

My other interests include reading, music, theatre, dance, film, and contemplative practices.

Animal Reports

First graders selected an animal to research. Using iPads, they found three facts and collected three pictures about their animals on the Internet. Then, after writing their own scripts, they produced their animal reports using the SonicPics app on the iPads. To see their reports, click here:
