Special Education
Special education is specially designed instruction based on the needs of an individual student. As required by law, School District 197 provides a free, appropriate public education to about 900 students with disabilities from birth through age 21 who attend both public and private schools. A team develops, implements and reviews each student’s individual program. Please see School District 197’s Special Education section for more information.

Pilot Knob's Special Services team is dedicated to helping each individual child achieve success. Staff are devoted to students and leave no stone unturned in their quest to help each one achieve his/her potential.

JoAnn Cudo
My name is JoAnn Cudo. I am a Special Education Teacher at Pilot Knob STEM Magnet School. I began my teaching career in 2001 and have taught students in grades K-6. I received my Masters of Arts in Education from Hamline University, Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, and Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at the University of North Dakota. I am very passionate about building strong relationships with families, students, staff, and community. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two kids, and puppy. We love the outdoors, being active, playing sports, fishing, reading, cooking, and attending sporting events (especially the Vikings). If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please call me or email me, I look forward to working with you!

   Julie Fitzgerald
Hello! My name is Julie Fitzgerald and I am excited to be a special education teacher at Pilot Knob! I was a special education teacher for 17 years prior to coming to Pilot Knob in 2014. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education, attending St. Cloud State University for both degrees.

I enjoy being a special education teacher because I get to work closely with students and parents and love to see what we can accomplish through hard work.

I live with my husband, two sons who attend school in ISD 197, and our dog Henry. In my spare time I like to run, read and watch my sons play sports.
